Building Your Village: Finding Community in Modern Parenting

They say it takes a village, but most of us are parenting in isolation. Our parents might be far away. Our neighbors are strangers. Our friends are as overwhelmed as we are. So how do we build the community our families desperately need?

The Isolation Epidemic

Modern parenting can feel lonely. Social media shows us highlight reels while we’re living in the trenches. We compare our worst moments to everyone else’s best, and we feel like failures. But here’s the truth: everyone is struggling. Everyone has hard days. Everyone needs support.

Finding Your People

Community doesn’t just happen—it’s built intentionally:

  • Start local: School activities, neighborhood gatherings, library programs
  • Find your values: Church groups, homeschool co-ops, parenting philosophies that align with yours
  • Go online: Quality communities (like this one!) that offer support without judgment
  • Be vulnerable first: Share a struggle, and watch others open up too

The Gift of Being Known

There’s something profoundly healing about being seen and known by other parents who get it. When you can text someone “today was HARD” and they respond with “mine too, want to meet at the park?” — that’s community. That’s what we’re building here.

You don’t have to do this alone. None of us do. We’re in this together.

How have you found your parenting community? We’d love to hear your story.
